In Home IV Iron Infusion Therapy

IV Iron Infusion Therapy is a medical treatment prescribed by doctors to treat Iron Deficiency Anemia. It is a procedure during which iron is being delivered (infused) into your bloodstream directly for optimal absorption. Some of the reasons why your doctor might think you need an iron infusion include inability to absorb iron due to gut issues, blood loss, and/or failure to supplement iron orally.

Traditional iron pills are an excellent source of supplementation. However, there is an upper threshold to how much patients can absorb daily via oral iron pills; depending on the form of anemia a patient is suffering from it might not suffice to be an effective treatment option. On the other hand, iron infusions are prescribed by doctors after a thorough physical exam and blood panel, ensuring that the patient is receiving the best care possible.

What Is Anemia?

Anemia is a condition in which our body does not have enough healthy red blood cells to supply oxygen to various parts of our system. The most common symptoms include fatigue, dizziness, and general weakness. Other symptoms include headache, pale skin tone, brittle nails, and cold hands/feet. Although these symptoms are commonplace among people suffering from anemia, there are different forms of anemia with different probable medical causes. Some anemia are chronic while others are acute in nature, which is why it is important to consult a physician well trained in the treatment options for different forms of anemia to ensure you receive the correct diagnosis and treatment.
